On the beautiful sunny evening Friday 29 June, a long table – directly outside of the restaurant at the river Rhine – was prepared by the charming staff of Canal Grande From 21 – 24 June. The wine tasting event, run by Peter from VinAuthority, was a wine trip through three European countries – Spain, Italy and Germany – focusing on the special demand triggered by a sunny great summer with a lot of nice warm evenings on the terrace or in the garden. This meant good Proseccos, three white (Galicia, Pfalz, Piemont) and one rosé wine (Pfalz) , fitting perfectly to the weather and the atmosphere. As there might also be some colder nights, also three high-end red wines (Rioja and Tuscany) were presented, at the end a Brunello di Montalcino. And the brilliant chef of Canal Grande, Franco, produced 8 creative very tasty courses, each course perfectly fitting to the presented wine. So, the tasting had different dimension – the wines for themselves and in comparison to each other and the pairing wine and food. The wines, their origin, the winemaker and his/her philosophy, the winery, the region and terroir were briefly explained by Peter whereas the courses were explained by Rossella and her team.
The feedback was brilliant – in words and in terms of ‘endurance’ as the last guests did not leave before 1:30 a.m. the next day.
Canal Grande and VinAuthority are offering joint events on a regular base. In the future, wine master and wine enthusiast classes, run by Christal, are scheduled (in English). The announcement will be made shortly.
